Is there any better way to do a television marathon than with Netflix? I think not.

I was put on bedrest while 25 weeks pregnant with my triplets in 2010, and I binged Dexter and Veronica Mars, both shows I had never seen but had been dying to catch up to the rest of the world as a fan. I also overdid myself with a handful of TLC reality shows.

Netflix got me through long, solo hours of pumping. Rob used to joke with me, saying I had surely seen everything there was on Netflix, but we all know that isn’t possible. I did, however, introduce myself to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, White Collar, Downton Abbey, and I found myself sucked back into Grey’s Anatomy (I declared the show dead to me three or four seasons earlier, when they killed of someone and kept around someone else – no spoilers! – in the worst season-ending cliffhanger of all time).

I find myself missing my pumping days because the Me Time I had back then is a distant memory. The time I had for getting lost in new shows and old favorites is long gone.

Now, if Netflix is on in my house, it’s on something for ETC. They’ve fallen head over heels in love with Clifford, and they still can’t get enough of Daniel Tiger (though I can – will we ever see new episodes?).

Instead of devouring new shows, I struggle to keep up with the few new episodes I try to follow, and more than anything else, I just want some peace and quiet when I finally get time to myself.

What are your favorite series on Netflix? Are you a fan of show-binging, or do you prefer to spread things out?

I love show binging. That’s how Craig and I bond these days. You should try heroes and homeland if you haven’t seen them already.

  2. I found myself watching “Mad Men” at 4 a.m. when I was nursing Miles. I watched so much Netflix when I was on maternity leave. Now, much of the same programming like you.

Just take a deep breath and count to 4.

Oh the joys/sorrows/worries of a bedrest pregnancy! Had it not been for the worlds crappiest cervix known to man I never would have found my long lost twin in Liz Lemon (30 Rock just in case you haven’t hit that series up yet…).

    xoxox

Please tell me you have seen Friday Night Lights. It’s the best show to binge watch ever!

I did this with Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Castle, and now I am doing something similar with Criminal Minds, although I have just been TiVo’ing hours and hours of it and watching the episodes back-to-back. I have some others to get into, but I know that once I fall down that hole, it’s hard to pull myself out of it. I wish Gilmore Girls would show up somewhere! I have never seen even one episode and would love to watch that one from beginning to end.

I recently binged on–and caught up to–Scandal. So good. I watched it while on the treadmill. I need a new series now. Should I do Dexter? Any other must-see’s? :-)

  6. Mary says:

Oh, Parenthood! I binge-watched Parenthood as well, and now it is my current favorite show!

  7. Delora says:

I’m a total binger. I’ve been going through Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice the past two months (currently on Season 6), and plan to do Veronica Mars on Amazon next.

Desperate Housewives was a fun binge in addition to all of the other previous suggestions.

Hi, Netflix is huge in our house, I found myself watching Lost all over again recently.

  9. Emry says:

I’ve binged on Doctor Who and Arrested Development. We’re working on Mad Men and I’m re-watching HIMYM and The Office. I’m really starting to consider Veronica Mars for my next show.

  10. Jennie says:

We’re binging Friday Night Lights right now! I’d also love a new season of Daniel and Hanny Manny!

  11. Andrea says:

Somebody already said it, but it’s worth saying again: LOST. Some of the supernatural/sci-fi elements are a little hard to believe…you’ll either love it or hate it…but you cannot ask for better character development.

I have been pumping at work for about 8 months and I watched all of Breaking Bad and Orange is the New Black and I’m currently on season 3 of Mad Men.

My daughter is obsessed with Mulan right now.

As a mama of two, I never get the TV for myself and if I do it’s not at the right time. I watch Netflix on my ipad in bed after the kiddos get to sleep. Scandal, Orange is the New Black and Mad Men are on the top of my current list. Dexter and True Blood got me through my first (winter) maternity leave.

It’s hard to binge on since there’s only a couple seasons and only three “episodes” per season, but definitely BBC’s Sherlock. Even if you’re not on the Benedict Cumberbatch bandwagon it’s still amazing. And you’ll probably be on the bandwagon after because his acting is so good for the role of Sherlock!

I also saw we will be getting more Daniel on PBS at least, so I’m really hoping that we at least get the second part of season 1 on Netflix!!
